Destiny

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my blog!

Is this to be the story of our lives? An ordinary person going through the motions of an ordinary life? A life without fame or fortune? A life of mediocrity? Not everyone is destined for greatness, but we can search inside ourselves to find the destiny our soul has chosen. When we are in sync with our destinies, we will only feel a sense of accomplishment, peace and acceptance since we are living the life we truly desire. It will be extraordinary to us, however the outside world may view it. Living to impress others is not living in Spirit. Seeking undue approval is leading with Ego and guaranteed to leave us bereft of  self-confidence and self-acceptance.

Destiny is defined as “the hidden power believed to control what will happen in the future; fate; an irresistible force or agency.” If destinies are predetermined, then you might think why bother at all? It would seem if we struggle along the “wrong” path, then our efforts will result in nothing. Nada. Zip. Or, just an unfulfilled life.

So, how do we get in touch with ourselves to know what we’re supposed to do, so we can get to it and do it right the first time? Alan Cohen wrote an article,”From the Heart: Soul at the Helm of Destiny” which appeared in the November/ December 2015 issue of Wisdom NYC/ Tri-State Edition in which he offers some helpful advice.

Mr. Cohen tells us the story of the actress Meryl Streep,…” who overslept on the morning she was to be interviewed for admission to a law school. Her soul commandeered her life path so she followed her heart instead of her mind, and her inner being recognized her grander destiny.”

“You, too, have a destiny your soul has chosen. Your intellect may tell you one thing, but your soul continually prompts you to stay on course with your mission… . Perhaps you are facing a critical choice point in your ow life… .While you may have spent a great deal of time and effort asking your mind, other people, and external sources for the answers to these important questions, you may not have asked your soul. The mind wonders but the soul knows. Ask your soul to guide your destiny.”

William Shakespeare told us centuries ago, “To thine own self be true.” You see, this is not a new concept. If we are happy in our lives, the negative pronouncements of those who don’t share our vision are inconsequential. That constant nagging voice at the back of our minds that tells us to do this, not that, is the voice of our soul. Listen. It’s how we fulfill our destiny.

Maybe your destiny is to show kindness, lead by example and teach right from wrong – to give a boost or a jump-start so they may lead happier, more secure  lives?  Perhaps you’re a parent or grandparent, a teacher, a member of the clergy?

Maybe your destiny is improve and maintain good health, safety and quality of life of others? Perhaps you’re a nurse, a doctor, a firefighter, a police officer or a member of the armed forces?

Maybe your destiny is to bring beauty into the world, create entertainment or share thought-provoking ideas? Perhaps you’re an artist, musician, screen or play writer, an author or blogger?

Maybe your destiny is to transport people safely. Maybe you’re a bus driver, a train conductor, an airplane pilot, a captain of a ship, or a carpooler?

Maybe your destiny is to help people protect what they hold dear? Perhaps you provide insurance or own an alarm company or work as a security guard?

I can go on and on. The point is, there is dignity and importance in all walks of life.

In many of these above mentioned professions, we come into contact and therefore, influence the lives of hundreds of people in a day. Multiply that by a lifetime and you can see the far-reaching effects of what we do.

Remember, one person, one experience at a time. We have the power to change the world.

Walk your own true path. Leave the others to theirs.

Let me know how you do. I’d love to hear from you.
