Your Current Self Image Is the Foundation For Your Future

Do not allow people into your life who are intent upon destroying your confidence and self-image. Stay away from those barb-throwing, mudslinging nay sayers. You know the types: the challengers, the fact-checkers, the dart throwers, the demanders, the objectors, the sarcastic quippers, the woe-is-me attackers. Ouch! When they incessantly color you in a negative light, you might just start to believe them. Don’t allow it!  

Does this motley crew sound like an exaggeration or a fabrication?  I guess we don’t know the same people. Lucky you!

These people operate out of Ego. It’s all about them and establishing their superiority at the get go. For those of us who try to live in Spirit, it’s disconcerting and upsetting to be the focus of attention in their game of one-upmanship. We can’t change them. But, we can change ourselves.

Buddha said, “All that we are is the result of what we have thought.” This means we become what we think we are. That’s one big reason that visualization helps us to achieve our goals. If you think it, you see it. Thought becomes action. Action results in reaction producing a karmic effect. Positive thoughts beget positive results. Negative thoughts beget negative results.

Let’s take a look at an interesting article by Lee Milteer, “The Magic Of Your Mind” in the October/ November issue of Creations Magazine.

According to Ms. Milteer, “Researchers report that 40,000 to 50,000 thoughts enter your mind every day. It has also been shown that up to 80% of your thoughts are negative on an average day. That means you are reacting to external programming. Since our thoughts affect our emotions, it is important to recognize the numbing effect those negative thoughts have on your outlook, your attitude, your creativity, and your passion for life.”

Notice the wording of the above statement: You must believe it in order for it to happen.

Ms. Milteer goes on to say, “The subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between factual reality and imagined reality… . That’s why it’s so important to carefully consider the kind of information you feed your mind. Everything you think – true or false, good or bad – is processed by the conscious mind and imprinted on the subconscious. So, whatever information you repeatedly program into your subconscious about your abilities, your potential, and your worth is what you believe to be true about yourself and what you will be able to manifest in your life.”

What you think and do today, builds the foundation for your tomorrow. If you want to be an actor, then you must live the life of an actor NOW. Take acting lessons. Attend performances. Study acting styles and techniques. Notice how actors use facial expression, gestures, posture, voice inflection, phrasing, pausing and emphasis. Read their biographies and autobiographies. Audition. Do community theater. Respond to cast calls. Socialize where actors congregate. Immerse yourself in that life. Your thought patterns will change, then you will change.

Wishful thinking is a waste of time. Instead, list the steps necessary to reach your goal. Each day, do something that will take you one step closer. You will see how your mindset changes with your new-found purpose. People will react to you differently. You will then feel better about yourself. You will exude positive energy and will make others believe. There’s karma in action.

Don’t waste your time trying to figure out why people in your life want to destroy your image of yourself. Many people are envious and resentful of the confidence, purpose and success of others because they’re not fulfilled in their own lives or  because they want to be the head honcho alone on the pedestal, not willing to share the spotlight, or perhaps they lack vision for themselves and just don’t believe in its power in the lives of others. Whatever might motivate them, keep them at bay. Don’t try to convince them of your worth. They’re not listening.

I learned this a long time ago: Judge a person by how you feel after you’ve left their company. If you leave them feeling  jumbled, upset and confused, stay away from them. If you feel confident, hopeful and valuable, they’re keepers.

Back to today’s message. Keep this thought: Live your intention, not your reality. Visualize and you will achieve.
